Warning over scammers calling Scots and pretending to be police

Police have issued a warning after residents in the Borders were targeted by scammers.

Officers today told how people in the Duns area, near Kelso, have been receiving calls claiming to be from Essex Police trying to get personal information.

The bogus callers ask questions related to the surname Drummond in a bid to get details from their vicitms.

Cops have told anyone who receives these calls to hang up the phone and get in touch with them.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Residents in the Duns area have received phone calls claiming to be from Essex Police.

"The caller asks questions related to the surname Drummond and attempts to glean personal information.

"These are bogus calls and are not from Police.

"If you receive an unsolicited call claiming to be from Police and you suspect it to not to be genuine, terminate the call and call us on 101."
