A 16-year-old boy has died after taking an ecstasy-type tablet at a Halloween rave.
North Wales Police said the teenager suffered a suspected drugs overdose after taking the pill at the event in a village in Conwy.
The force and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board issued a joint warning following the boy’s death in the early hours of Sunday morning.
He is believed to have taken a pink, rectangular pill with a Rolls Royce logo on one side and “200mg” on the other.
He was taken ill shortly before 1am at a licensed rave held in a barn in Gwytherin, near Abergele. Paramedics took the teenager to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd Hospital in Bodelwyddan, Denbighshire, where he was pronounced dead.
Police told anyone else who took one of the pills at the event and was feeling ill to go to hospital “as a matter of urgency”. They also warned anyone in possession of the tablets not to take them.
Superintendent Gareth Evans said: “This is a truly tragic incident in which a young boy has lost his life.
“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this terribly difficult time and specially trained officers are supporting them.”
The boy has not been identified.
