Using the latest technology built into cars could see drivers fined up to £1,000, according to motoring experts.
Modern cars are increasingly being shipped out with the latest gadgets hard-wired into their systems, but using them when driving or even when you are stationary could lane you with points and a fine.
Many cars now come complete with tech including GPS, traffic jam warnings and speed camera alerts - but using them could be expensive, according to Hippo Motor Finance .
Managing director Tom Preston said: “Connected cars and the in-car technology they come with are a fantastic asset for drivers to have.
"However, motorists need to be wary of road rules when using devices, such as in-built sat nav systems, to avoid a heavy fine, penalty points or even a driving ban.”
UK driving laws state that you have to be in full control your vehicle at all times, including when stopped at lights or stopped in a traffic jam, reports Mirror Online.
If police believe a driver is not in control of their car because they’re distracted by new tech, that could mean three penalty points and a maximum fine of £1,000.
Mr Preston said: “Connected cars are fantastic in how they bring first-rate communication, navigation and entertainment together and right to a driver’s fingertips.
"However, all this can come at a price if people are distracted by the in-car technology. Motorists need to take care when driving these cars to avoid road accidents by making sure their full attention is on the road at all times."
