Warning over fake supermarket scam that will expose your bank details

Major supermarket chain Morrisons is warning shoppers to watch out for a scam which could leave you seriously out of pocket.

People don't need to have shopped at Morrisons recently - or ever - to fall for the con.

The store says someone is sending emails, texts and posting on social media with claims of a Morrisons deal.

But following the instructions will allow fraudsters to access to sensitive details. People are being lured in with a promise of £40 of free vouchers, reports MEN .

The warning shared by Morrisons reads: "We are aware of a number of spam emails, text messages and social media posts from third-parties posing as Morrisons for the purpose of fraudulent activity.

"If you receive one of these suspicious messages, please do not click any links, open attachments or enter personal information.

"We would never ask for your personal details in order to redeem a voucher.

"If you believe you have been contacted please contact us on '0345 611 6111' or call Action Fraud on '0300 123 2040'.

"You can also visit 'www.actionfraud.police.uk' to report fraudulent activity to the authorities."
