Warning over celebrations if England win Euro 2020 match

Football fans are being warned not to turn the Euro 2020 party into a Covid-19 outbreak as the city prepares for Sunday's big game.

UEFA Euro 2020 will see England playing Croatia at 2pm on Sunday, June 13. Bars and pubs showing the game have been preparing all week.

People attending a venue to watch the game will need to check in and must remain seated throughout the match.

Extra tram services will also be running to ensure there is not a build up of people leaving the city and crowding tram stops.

Public Health director for Nottinghamshire, Jonathan Gribbin said: "It is going to be a time for people across Nottinghamshire to enjoy together.

"If you are going to meet with people I am urging you this weekend and the coming days and weeks of the championship to ensure that the party does not become an outbreak.

"I am asking everyone to keep their defence really tight. That means social distancing so if you are meeting up indoors, you have the opportunity to position the furniture before everyone gathers and it starts. Hand washing is so effective at stopping the spread.

"If you are going out to watch a screening of a match at a pub we want you to enjoy it but make sure you register at the venue and remain seated at your table.

"Please would you make it your business to help the landlord and his or her staff to keep the whole thing Covid safe."

Interim Public Health director for Nottingham, David Johns added: "We will work with many of our colleagues in enforcement on how to best manage those celebrations if they spill out onto the streets and if gatherings take place.

"The trams are putting on a regular increased tram service to try and keep that flow of people and reduce people gathering particularly in those indoor areas."
