Warning of 'severe delays' as crane which was redeveloping intu Broadmarsh is taken down

A huge crane over the Broadmarsh Centre is to be dismantled as the half-demolished mall remains shut.

Nottingham City Council has said it will close Maid Marian Way (southbound only) from its junction with Friar Lane to Collin Street and Collin Street from its junction with Maid Marian Way to its junction with Middle Hill for the works to take place.

The council's highways team has said severe delays are expected during the dismantling works.

The closure will begin from 10pm on Friday, July 24, with teams working around the clock to dismantle the crane.

An expected completion date for the work has been set for 6am on Monday, July 27.

Diversion routes are being set up via Castle Boulevard eastbound and also along Huntingdon Street heading towards the BBC island and London Road.

The work is being carried out by contractor Sir Robert McAlpine, which left the intu Brodamarsh site after it was not instructed to return to work following the lockdown.

They confirmed to Nottinghamshire Live on June 16 the removal of equipment and "demobilisation" of the site at intu Broadmarsh in the wake of its closure.

Intu collapsed into administration just two weeks later and the future of the shopping centre remains unknown for now.

The walkway between Lister Gate and Collin Street through the centre had remained open at first but was since shut by intu over safety concerns for pedestrians heading through.

Work on the Broadmarsh bus station, car park and library development continues to progress under the control of Nottingham City Council.
