A warning has been issued after a rise in wasp nests in Derry due to the warm weather.
North West Pest Control Ltd are a family run Pest Control business established in 1975. They have been serving Derry families by tackling pest issues for decades.
Owner and director of North West Pest Control Ltd, Patricia Page, contacted MyDerry concerning a huge rise in the numbers of wasp nests being found in the area and to warn residents to take extreme care if they come across one.
Patricia said: " We want to highlight the dangers of wasp nests. We have seen a huge increase in activity in the last couple of weeks due to the great weather.
"When dealing with some of the nests that I have attended, unfortunately people have already gotten badly stung."
While we have all been able to enjoy the sunny days recently, Patricia and her company have become incredibly busy dealing with numerous wasp nests across the city. This issue will be present even when the good weather disappears and Patricia advises residents to take great care.
Patricia warns that it can happen anywhere and to be careful if you see wasps coming in and out of where you and your family spend time.
One of the wasp nests Patricia recently had to deal with was in a 5-year-old girl's playhouse.
Patricia highlighted the dangers that the girl and her family faced should they have tried to get rid of the nest themselves.
She said: "Some people take it upon themselves to try and deal with the nest. I would strongly advise against this. You do not know how you will react to a wasp sting and a reaction leading to anaphylaxis can be fatal. It only takes one sting.
"Pest Management Professionals have the necessary training, experience and PPE to safely treat and remove wasps nests."
Anyone affected by these nests or other pest problems can contact North West Pest Control Ltd here.
