Warning issued as devious scammers target National Lottery players

The National Lottery has issued an urgent warning over a devious text scam that is targeting players.

Sneaky scammers have been sending texts to people claiming to be the Irish Lotto and asking them to click a link regarding the "selection of your name".

Lotto chiefs took to social media tonight urging people not to be taken in by the cunning ruse as the con artists may be trying to get hold of bank details and other personal information.

They tweeted: "The National Lottery has been made aware that members of the public have received text messages which purport to be from the ‘Lotto’.

"These text messages are not from the National Lottery and are likely to be a phishing scam.

"The National Lottery will never text you to ask you to provide any sensitive or personal information via text message.

"If you have received this text message, please do not open it, or click on the link provided. Instead you should delete the message immediately.

"Any player who has opened the ‘Lotto’ text message and clicked on the link or provided passwords or personal information should change any passwords immediately."

Anyone who has unwittingly given their financial details is advised to contact their bank urgently.
