Warning issued after dog 'attacks' pregnant goat at Kilmarnock's Dean Park

A warning has been issued after a dog 'attacked' a 'very pregnant' goat.

Dean Castle and Country Park reported via their Facebook page that the incident took place on Monday evening.

A vet was called out to the Kilmarnock park by staff and both the goat and its kid should recover, experts confirmed.

But the incident prompted staff at the park to warn pet owners to keep dogs on a leash around the farm trail.

The park hosts many animals including deer, sheep, pigs, donkeys and goats.

The post from Dean Castle and Country Park read: "Last night [Monday] a dog attacked one of our very pregnant goats.

"We had the vet in today and the goat and her wee kid should be ok.

"However, would you please make sure you keep your dogs on a lead around the farm trail and near all of our animals.

"Thanks for your support with this."

A further post from the park set out the bylaws of the park.

It reads: "Any person owning or in charge of a dog and causing or permitting any dog to enter on any part of the Country Park shall be bound to ensure that (a) any such dog is kept under control so as to ensure that no danger, annoyance or disturbance is caused to any person and so as not to disturb or damage any animal, plant or bird in the country park; (b) no dog enters upon any area that the countryside development manager may from time to time designate by notice as a conservation Area; and (c) no dog is permitted to enter upon that part of the country park comprising the policies of Dean Castle shaded red on Plan C attached to these byelaws except that it shall be led on a leash.

"Signage is already out throughout the park and we will put the detail of the bylaws on our information board."
