Warning from firefighters after 'severe' garage fire in Weston-super-Mare

Firefighters have warned people not to leave their appliances on following a "severe" garage fire.

Fire crews from Weston-super-Mare fire station were called to a blaze at a property in Mead Vale on Tuesday morning (May 21).

After arriving at around 11.34am, firefighters extinguished the fire and determined the cause was a tumble dryer which was left on.

A picture shows firefighters remaining at the scene to dampen down the burnt-out garage.

A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue said: "Fire crews attended the fire on Mead Vale at 11.34am.

"They used thermal imaging cameras, breathing apparatus and a high pressure hose reel.

"The cause of the fire was a tumble dryer which was left on."

In a tweet , Weston-super-Mare firefighters issued a warning to members of the public.

"White Watch and On-Call firefighters have dealt with a severe fire in a domestic garage today caused by a tumble dryer left on and unattended," the tweet read.

"Please think before switching appliances on before you go out."
