Warning for pet owners after tack pins found inside dog treats near Mitchell Library

Dog owners have been warned to be on their guard after treats filled with tack pins were discovered close to the Mitchell Library.

Sean Maguire made the grim discovery on a grassy area near the Charing Cross library.

He says this is the eighth time he's found lethal dog biscuits in the last 18 months.

Speaking to Glasgow Live Sean said:  "This has been going on for far too long.

"Treats with tack pins hidden inside them were found in March 2018 - someone else in the area saw them and the SPCA came out and put up warning signs.

"I have a doberman and at first I avoided the area."

But Sean says he was determined not to let the evil perpetrator make him and his dog feel unsafe, so returned to his local walking spot.

He said: "I've found treats with tacks in them maybe eight times in total and four or five this past week alone."

After making the discovery, Sean was quick to report it to Police Scotland but is keen to warn fellow dog walkers about the danger.

He said: "The police are coming tomorrow to clear the area but I want everyone to know what is going on.

"The tacks could harm a dogs paw, or even mouth and stomach. Dog owners need to be careful."
