Warning for parents as taxi driver 'tries to get boy into his car' outside a primary school in Didsbury

Parents at a primary school in Didsbury have been put on alert after reports that a taxi driver tried to get a pupil into his car at home time.

The incident is said to have happened outside St Catherine's RC primary school on Thursday afternoon.

A year six boy - aged ten or eleven - reported that they were stopped by a taxi driver who asked them to get in the car.

He declined and the school, on School Lane, was informed about the incident later.

The school confirmed the boy 'came to no harm'.

On Friday, children at the school were urged to report anything suspicious and the school sent a text to parents and carers about the incident.

It reads: "Just so you are aware, when one of our year 6 children walked home after school yesterday a taxi driver stopped and asked him to get in the car. He of course didn't and therefore he came to no harm."

The message continued: "Whether you have given written permission for your child to walk home unaccompanied, or you collect them to walk on their own, please make them aware of what to do.

"We always encourage the children to return to school and talk to a member of staff if they are worried about anything at all. We can then contact you.

"We have stressed this with the children in school today."

One parent at the school, who declined to be named, said: "It is a bit of a worry. It's in year six when the school allows parents to let children walk to and from school for the first time."

The M.E.N. has asked GMP for a comment.
