Warning for Leeds United fans with train strikes to affect plans for Bristol City

Leeds United fans may struggle to make it home from the Bristol City match this weekend as train strikes are expected to cause major disruption.

Cross Country Trains says it will be running 'a significantly reduced service' on Sunday, August 4, when at Ashton Gate.

In a statement, Leeds United said: "Cross Country Trains have advised that, due to industrial action from RMT union, fans should look at alternative ways of returning home.

"There will be no trains travelling out of Bristol from 3.30pm, and the match does not kick-off until 4.30pm."

Cross Country has released a list of the services it plans to run on Sunday, but is planning to release an updated list tomorrow.

While National Rail is warning passengers who are still trying to organise a train journey home that 'the online journey planners are not currently up to date'.

Members of the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers are planning to stage take industrial action between Thursday, August 1 and Tuesday, August 6.

Over that six-day period members will not work rest days or non-contractual overtime.

Mick Cash, RMT general secretary, said: "Members on Cross Country are taking industrial action as the company has thrown established practices out of the window and attempted to undermine a recognised trade union at every turn.

'We cannot and will not allow this to continue'

He added: “The union remains available for talks aimed at restoring the collective bargaining agreement.

"Until then our members on Cross Country will be sending a clear message to management that they expect the company to deal properly with the union that represents them.”
