Warning for Easter holidaymakers over bleak Europe weather forecast

Brits planning a trip abroad over the Easter holidays are set to be disappointed with miserable weather forecast at multiple European hotspots.

The Met Office has warned about the “unsettled” conditions expected at many getaway favourites this weekend.

Spain, Portugal and France can all expect to see thunderstorms, downpours and strong winds over the next few days.

Temperatures in Madrid will only hit highs of 11C on Easter Sunday - lower than the 14C forecast for London.

Lisbon is also supposed to his 14C, but with a 60 per cent chance of rain in the afternoon.

Paris will be much warmer (17C) but no sunshine is forecast, with grey clouds expected the whole day.

Malaga will enjoy a high of 17C and a few hours of clearer skies, but this will be accompanied by rain for most of the day too.

There is more hope for the eastern Mediterranean, especially in Italy and Greece, where the weather will be the driest and the warmest.

Athens is set for sunshine and 22C temperatures. Rome will not be as sunny but will enjoy a comfortable high of 22C.

London is expecting to see average temperatures for this time of year with meteorologists predicting a weekend of unsettled weather with rain, cloud and wind.

There is little, if any, sunshine forecast for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with temperatures sitting between 7C and 14C on most days.

The Met Office told The Standard that this is “a typical mix of spring weather with periods of showers, rain and winds, as well as some sunny spells at times”.

Spokesperson Andrea Bishop said it is too early to tell what the implications of the current weather is for the upcoming summer.

The Met Office previously said there will be “spells of rain or showers for most, if not all, areas” in the UK, especially in London and the South East of England.

There is a possibility of strong winds, with temperatures likely to dive “a little below normal for late March”.

Those who have planned staycations should “keep up to date with the forecast”, spokesperson Oli Claydon advised.
