Warning for Brits over France face mask rule after travellers 'told they're not allowed to board flights'

British holidaymakers wearing reusable face masks could be stopped from boarding flights in France due to rules in place.

Only single use disposable face masks are allowed to be worn on flights, according to French coronavirus rules.

It is a move that has reportedly already seen British passengers told they weren't allowed to board wearing the resuable type of face mask commonly seen in the UK.

The strict legislation for travelling in France and with French airlines states that "All persons aged eleven or over shall, on board an aircraft engaged in public transport to, from or within the national territory, wear the protective mask referred to in section I of Article 49 from the moment of boarding."

The protective mask referred to in the legislation are the type EN 14683 - the common standard single-use surgical mask that are often blue or green in colour.

According to local reports, two easyJet passengers were told they couldn't travel wearing a reusable mask.

One passenger travelling from the UK to France was told to take off a high-protection white hospital mask and replace it with a blue surgical mask.

Another reported that people arriving for a flight to the UK from Bordeaux wearing reusable fabric masks were told that they had to wear the blue disposable ones instead.

Both were reportedly allowed to board once another passenger offered them one of their own disposable masks.

An easyJet spokesperson said: "The French authorities have passed legislation that requires all passengers over the age of 11 travelling to and from France by air to wear a disposable surgical mask and no other types of face masks will be accepted.

“easyJet is informing customers of this requirement via email, SMS and Flight Tracker ahead of departure.

"Customers are also alerted to the importance of checking any current travel requirements on our homepage and via our Know Before You Go information pages at easyJet.com."
