Officers have confirmed that fortunately only minor injuries were reported.

The force shared a picture of the wrecked van as a warning for drivers to observe the road.

They also revealed that the driver of the white van has been reported for careless driving following the crash.

A spokesperson for Merseyside police' s road unit said: "Patrols dealt with a nasty rear end shunt early this morning on the M6.

"Driver collided into the rear of stationary traffic. Fortunately minor injury only.

"If this isn’t a reminder to observe the road ahead, I don’t know what is. Driver reported for careless driving."
