Warning as UK temperatures set to drop to minus 6C

Temperatures in parts of the country are expected to drop to minus 6C overnight with a widespread frost expected. The Met Office expects lows of minus 6C in northern regions.

In parts of the country affected gardeners have been warned to keep an eye on the weather which could disrupt flowering. Locally, temperatures are expected to drop to 0C.

The Met Office said that Sunday (April 3) in Nottingham will see a frosty start were temperatures could be at 0C for hours in the morning. Forecasters expect a frosty morning, with temperatures between 6am and 7am predicted to be at 0C in the city.

They are expecting more sun later on, though, with any patchy freezing fog soon clearing and temperatures increasing to a high of 9C. There are not many showers predicted for Sunday. The Met Office predicts that the most likely time for rain will be late at night at around 11pm, continuing into Monday morning (April 4).t

Forecasters have predicted that any remaining showers will quickly die away later on Saturday (April 2) across the East Midlands region, leaving a little patchy cloud but also long clear periods, allowing a widespread frost to develop. Isolated freezing fog patches may form.

For the wider region the weather experts have predicted that wind will pick up on Monday with early rain. This will then give way to some drier and brighter spells. Tuesday should be largely dry but often cloudy, with some bright or sunny spells.

While the Met Office have said that Wednesday could also be breezy, with sunny intervals and showers. They added the temperatures will be near normal.
