Warning as heavy rain and thunderstorms may cause flooding, Met Office says

Heavy showers are on the way with a weather warning issued for the whole weekend.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms which covers most of England on Saturday (August 21).

It is in place from midday lasting for the rest of the day.

The warning covers all of Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire extending to the south part of the country too.

Heavy showers and thunderstorms may cause some transport disruption and perhaps flooding, weather experts said.

Another yellow warning is in place for Sunday, with fewer places being affected by rain and thunderstorms. The majority of Nottinghamshire is covered by the warning though.

Giving its outlook on what to expect, the Met Office said: "There is a good chance driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus.

"Delays to train services are possible.

"Some short term loss of power and other services is possible, with possible damage due to lightning strikes."
