A warning for a bushfire burning near a Western Australian town has been downgraded after putting homes and lives at risk.
The blaze started on Tuesday afternoon near the intersection of Trigwell and Railway roads in Boyanup, about 18km southeast of Bunbury.
It prompted an emergency warning for people in parts of Boyanup, Elgin and the Shire of Capel, with residents told to flee their homes if possible.
About an hour later, the alert was downgraded to watch and act.
"The fire has been contained, but not controlled," Emergency WA said.
"Although there is no immediate danger you need to be aware and keep up to date in case the situation changes."
The temperature hit 32C in Bunbury by 4pm local time, with wind gusts up to 37km/h recorded earlier in the day.
