Warning after woman allegedly tries to steal dog from garden in West Lothian

Owners in West Lothian are being warned after a woman allegedly attempted to steal a dog from a garden.

In a Facebook post that has now been shared almost one thousand times, Kayla Johnston warns "beware".

She writes that a woman had walked into her mum's garden in the Addiewell area, near West Calder, and tried to take her brother's dog.

She said: "Please beware - a woman with blonde hair and pink top on, with a rucksack, with a foreign accent just walked into my mum's garden and tried to take my brother's dog!

"She got a fright when we opened the door and said she was looking for water!

"Walked across the road to the bus stop then a white van came flying down the road and a guy jumped out the van into the back and she got in the van and they sped off."

It is understood the pair were driving a "white transit van".

The post has now been shared with other owners in a local pet group, who are being warned not to leave dogs unattended in the garden.

One wrote "that's shocking", while another said: "They will be targeting other areas. Everybody needs to be vigilant."

Edinburgh Live previously reported that dog walkers spotted two men acting suspiciously in a van near Portobello who used "a whistle to call dogs over"
