A teen was 'rushed to ICU with no underlying health conditions and intubated" according to one terrifying report from an Irish Covid-19 call centre.
Conor Buggy, Assistant Professor in Occupational and Environmental Studies at UCD, shared the scary insight into the ordeals he is faced with on a daily basis.
He explained that a teenager with no underlying conditions was rushed to ICU, Dublin Live reports.
And he urged people to "cop on, do as your told, social distance and isolate."
On Twitter, he said: "Today at our COVID call centre, I had a 17-year-old boy with no underlying health conditions in ICU and intubated.
"We talked to his Mam. So, tell me again how healthy young people can’t get it?
"Seriously cop on and do as your bloody told, social distance and isolate."
The warning comes one day after new data revealed a second person under the age of 25 had died from the coronavirus in the Republic of Ireland.
Figures from the Health Surveillance Protection Centre on Sunday said that a patient aged between 15 and 24 has passed away from COVID-19.
This is the second case in this age bracket, following the death of a 23-year-old which was announced on April 15.
However, no details about these cases have been released so it is unknown whether they had underlying conditions or not.
The health chiefs have also not revealed the gender or location of the two youngest deaths linked to the virus in Ireland.
Health Minister Simon Harris last night warned against taking our eye off the ball as crowds thronged piers and beaches in the sunshine.
Mr Harris said Covid-19 was still causing “havoc, devastation, hurt and pain” with 118 infected people being treated in intensive care units.
And he said if the chief medical officer had to make a decision today on easing the restrictions he would advise against it.
