Warning after scammers claiming to be HSBC staff ask for personal details

People are being warned about a scam where fraudsters are claiming to be from HSBC.

Scammers are using the phone number 0345 013 0163 and during the call, asked for the call taker’s sort code and account number.

Durham Constabulary said the person called correctly declined and hung up before contacting HSBC who confirmed this call was not legitimate and was a scam.

Officers are now warning people that your bank will never phone you out of the blue to ask for your PIN, password or bank account details.

It is the latest scam people are being warned about after fake coronavirus texts appeared to have been sent from the NHS earlier this month.

The texts advise residents they are eligible for a Covid-19 vaccine and then link readers to a false NHS website where they are asked to provide personal details.

Among the things they ask for are a person's address, a payment card and a proof of address.

However health bosses are urging people not to fall for the scam and are reminding residents that the NHS would never ask for bank information.

If you receive a fraudulent call like, you should hang up and reports it to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040, or online or online at www.actionfraud.police.uk
