Warning after mysterious bogus caller said they wanted to check house in Dunbar for asbestos

A mysterious bogus caller tried to trick their way into a house in Dunbar by saying they wanted to check for asbestos.

The would-be crook falsely claimed to be from East Lothian Council during the phonecall, which was made on Thursday (4 July).

After the person claimed that they wanted access to the house to check for asbestos, the homeowner grew suspicious and declined.

Police were contacted and follow-up enquiries with East Lothian Council found that this was not a legitimate call.

Officers are now saying that anyone who receives a similar call, should refuse entry and hang up before also contacting police on 101.
