Warning after man makes frightening discovery in his garden

A Southport man became distressed after making an alarming discovery in his garden.

William Callaghan, who lives on Belvedere Road in Ainsdale, says he found a big shopping bag that had been "thrown" over the fence.

He said: "We found this crowbar and set of pliers in a big shopping bag, thrown into our garden.

"[It was] obviously going to be used for breaking into sheds, garages or even houses. Be extra vigilant everyone."

Merseyside Police is due to collect the items from Mr Callaghan's home.

A police spokeswoman told the ECHO: "We were contacted at 2.20pm yesterday (Tuesday), following reports a carrier bag containing a crowbar, pliers and food items had been left in the garden of a house in Belvedere Road in Southport.

"It is not clear when the items were left. Arrangements are being made for them to be collected."

If you witness a crime, report it to Merseyside Police on 101.

Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. Any information given will be taken anonymously.
