Warning after hot glue gun destroys flat

Fire chiefs have issued a warning after a man's home office was completely destroyed when his hot glue gun fell off a shelf and caught ablaze.

Shocking photos show the extent of the fire damage, which ravaged the entire room.

Charred clothes, tools and furniture can be seen in the images issued by firefighters who urged people to check electrics are switched off after use.

The gun had accidently been left on by the man who then went to work before falling off a shelf and catching alight, fire chiefs said.

The service tweeted: "Please double check your electrics are switched off before you leave the house!"

Crews were called to a ground floor flat after reports of smoke coming from a three-storey building.

They entered the apartment and discovered that the fire had started from a hot glue gun that had been accidentally left on before the occupant went to work.

While he was out, the gun fell on the floor and set fire to clothes which spread to the rest of his office, leaving it completely destroyed.

Luckily, firefighters were able to tackle the blaze and contain it to the room.

But South Yorkshire Fire Service has now issued a warning of the dangers of leaving tools plugged in.

A spokesperson said: "Our key advice is for people to double check their electrical items are turned off before they go to bed or leave the house"
