Warning after fraudster injected OAP with fake vaccine and charged her £160

People are being warned of fraudsters after a man injected an OAP with a fake vaccine, which they are believed to have paid £160 for.

The incident has sparked a police hunt after the 92-year-old claimed a man, who pretended to work for the NHS, targeted at her home in west London, the Mirror reports.

Fearing he may put people's lives in danger, police have said it was "crucial" he is caught.

The elderly will be among the first to receive the coronavirus jab, with Nicola Sturgeon aiming to have all over 80-year-olds in Scotland vaccinated within the next four weeks.

However, the NHS has warned that people should not turn up at your door offering a vaccine, which comes following a spate of fake text messages offering a Covid jab in a bid to steal personal and financial information.

Scots will be contacted to receive the vaccine by their GP or healthcare provider.

According to the victim, the fraudster used a "dart-like implement" and it is not yet known what substance was injected.

The man then asked for £160 and claimed it would be reimbursed by the NHS, before leaving the premises.

Detective Inspector Kevin Ives from the City of London Police’s Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit said: “This is a disgusting and totally unacceptable assault on a member of the public which won’t be tolerated.

"It is crucial we catch him as soon as possible as not only is he defrauding individuals of money, he may endanger people’s lives.”
