Warning after bogus caller posing as charity collector stole from woman

A woman is pretending to be a deaf charity collector and stealing from unsuspecting residents in Trafford .

Greater Manchester Police issued a warning on social media earlier on Thursday, urging people to be extra vigilant.

They said a white woman with fair hair in her mid 20s-30s stole from a resident after knocking on her door and pretending to be deaf and unable to speak.

The victim believed the woman was raising money for charity so let her into her home and went to make her a drink.

During this time the woman went through the victim's handbag and stole her purse.

The warning, issued by GMP Trafford South, said: "Bogus callers may be men, women or even children.

"Never let strangers into your home unless they have an appointment and even then, try to have someone with you."

Anyone wanting to report suspicious callers should call GMP on 101 or in an emergency dial 999.
