Warning after Apple products recalled due to overheating risk

Apple have issued a recall for 15-inch MacBook pro laptops after discovering they could pose a fire risk.

Electrical Safety First have highlighted the fact the technology giant are recalling the laptops via social media today.

The laptops have battery issues that could use overheating which could lead to a fire.

Laptops that are affected were sold between September 2015 and February 2017.

You can check whether you have an affected model with the following steps:

Choose About This Mac from the Apple menu in the upper-left corner of your screen. Confirm your model is "MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)."

While their recall is only 'voluntary' at the moment, the fire services around the country are urging people to stop using them.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: "A number of Apple MacBrook Pros have been recalled as they may overheat and pose a fire safety risk.

"Customers with 15" MacBook Pro laptops sold between Sept 2015 & Feb 2017 should stop using them immediately."

Which MacBooks are affected?

It is the 15-inch MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015).

You can check this by selecting 'About This Mac' from the Apple menu in the upper-left corner of your screen.

How do I claim a new battery?

If you have the 15-inch MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) you need to go to the Apple website and put in the serial number.

This will then check your device is one of the models being recalled. If it is you are advised to stop using it and choose how you would like your battery replaced, either in store or via post .

Apple said: "In all cases, your device will be sent to an Apple Repair Center for service. Your MacBook Pro will be examined prior to any service to verify that it is eligible for this program. Service may take 1-2 weeks."
