Warning about driving after having had sex

Experts have now revealed that getting behind the wheel after sex could get you in hot water, because the hormones released affect your alertness and focus.

Being in charge of a vehicle after doing the deed is a potential hazard to yourself and other road users, according to Select Car Leasing

That’s because humans release the hormone oxytocin, a natural chemical that induces relaxation and sleepiness.

The so-called ‘cuddle hormone’ makes us feel warm and fuzzy, and when it wears off people often feel sleepy. This could severely impact driving skills and judgement.

Dr Daniel Cichi, from online GP service Doctor-4-U, said: “While it may be pleasant to feel calm and sleepy, it's not a good idea to have to drive or operate machinery soon afterwards.

“The judgement of a motorist who has just had sex may not be as acute as it normally is.

“So it's safer to wait, perhaps sleep a little or drink some coffee before jumping behind the wheel.”

James O’Malley, director of Select Car Leasing, said: “Road safety campaigners and the authorities are constantly warning drivers to take regular breaks on long journeys and never get behind the wheel when feeling tired.

“But it’s also worth noting that driving after having sex could be hazardous due to the sleepy feelings this hormone induces.

"It's better to bide your time following a good time, rather than risk being a danger on the roads because you’re not at your sharpest.”
