Warner Bros is making a Smash-style fighter where Gandalf can beat up Batman

According to reports, Warner Bros is once again bringing its worlds together – this time for a Super Smash Bros-style fighting game. The rumor began on Reddit and has since been confirmed by GamesBeat’s Jeff Grubb, who has his grubby mitts all over everything.

The only thing Grubb debunked was the claim that the game was in development by NetherRealm, the studio most famous for the Mortal Kombat series. It appears as if the rest of the report is accurate at the time of writing.

According to the leaker, the game is called Multiverse, and it sees characters from across Warner Bros’ IP library battling against each other.

Here’s a list of the characters that are apparently featured, presumably with more to come when we get the official announcement:

  • Shaggy (Scooby-Doo)
  • Gandalf (Lord of the Rings)
  • Tom & Jerry
  • Batman
  • Fred Flinstone
  • Mad Max
  • Johnny Bravo

Multiverse was allegedly born from a meme where Shaggy takes his “Ultra Instinct” form, transforming into an anime-style fighter with a flaming aura. While it sounds absurd, the meme appeared in the opening title of Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms, an animated movie from the publisher (thanks, VGC).

This also wouldn’t be the first time Warner Bros has experimented with mixing its worlds together. Lego Dimensions was built around this concept and saw Batman enter the worlds of Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. Elsewhere, there’s Space Jam: A New Legacy, which takes place inside a Warner Bros server where its characters exist and intermingle.
