Warmley fire: Investigation after ‘large blaze’ at old school building

A fire investigation has been launched after a blaze engulfed an old school building in Warmley.

14 crews were called out to Grange School sports building - which is currently not in use - after a fire broke out in the early hours of this morning.

The blaze - which spanned across four teaching blocks ranging from one to three floors high - has now been contained but fire engines remain at the scene.

Neighbouring school Digitech is closed for the day but the Principal says it ‘hasn’t been damaged’.

It’s understood Tower Road North was shut to traffic overnight but has since reopened.

A statement from Avon Fire and Rescue reads: "Crews from Kingswood, Hicks Gate, Temple, Bedminster, Patchway, Avonmouth, Southmead, Nailsea, Weston, Bath, and Thornbury were mobilised at 00:30hrs to reports of a fire at a school on Tower Road, Warmley.

"On arrival, firefighters found a large fire across parts of the building spanning across four teaching blocks ranging from one to three floors high.

"At its height, firefighters used six breathing apparatus for safety, and four 45mm jets to extinguish the fire. The turntable ladder was also used to help firefighters tackle the fire from height.

"Crews also used specialist equipment such as the High Volume Pump to ensure an adequate water supply was delivered to the scene.

"Police crews were also in attendance.

"Four appliances remain on scene including one turntable ladder, with crews continuing to dampen down.

"The cause is currently unknown, with a fire investigation due to take place."
