Jan. 15--Temperatures could hit the 40s this weekend, the beginning of a stretch of mild weather after January's arctic start.
Temperatures will start climbing Thursday and Friday, with highs in the low 30s, according to the National Weather Service.
Saturday could see the low 40s, the warmest it's been since Jan. 2 and Jan. 3, when temperatures hovered in the mid-30s, according to weather service meteorologist Jamie Enderlen.
But southwest gusts of up to 30 mph may make it feel more like the upper 20s, she said.
The mild weather will continue on Sunday, which is forecast to have the highs in the upper 30s, Enderlen said. A slight chance of snow is expected for some areas, especially Porter County in northwest Indiana, she said.
Enderlen warned about flooding near rivers as chunks of ice create jams.
"We've got people watching the rivers," she said. "We may have some sudden flooding."
