Warmest European getaways to escape UK's plummeting temperatures include sunny Rhodes and Algarve

As Brits experience plummeting temperatures this week, some might be thinking about where to go to escape the cold weather. Avoiding near-freezing temperatures in the UK is a tempting thought.

If you prefer basking in the sun in double-digit temperatures whilst wearing a swimming costume - instead of hunkering down wearing jumpers in the UK - then a hot European getaway might just be a trip for you. loveholidays has a selection of packages located in some of the warmest locations in Europe that are still available in the coming weeks, the earliest being February 1.

If you celebrate Valentine's Day which is peeking around the corner, you could even tie in a romantic getaway with your summery European trip abroad. You may not even have contemplated a vacation in winter, however the beauty of these packages means there is minimal organisation involved.

If you dig quieter destinations, then you may like wandering down the cobbled streets of a picturesque old town in the Algarve. If you like the busy bustle of a vibrant resort and love shopping, then you can squeeze in some retail therapy during a stay on the Canary Islands.

There really is something for every sort of traveller. Apart from basking in the warm sunshine on your European getaway, the act of booking a holiday and dreaming about the sunshine can also be a mood booster.

According to Travel Weekly, AllClear Travel Insurance ran a poll and discovered 50% of those polled said a summer holiday 'was key to improving mental health and wellbeing'. Here is our list wonderfully warm getaways that could see you jet off on an impromptu summer adventure, from as early as next week.
