May 07--Unusually warm weather across the Chicago area Thursday may reach record high temperatures that were last seen 61 years ago.
As of about 6 a.m., the National Weather Service was predicting a high temperature of 86 degrees to register at O'Hare International Airport and the downtown area, and a high of 88 degrees to be recorded at Midway International Airport sometime around 3 p.m. or 4 p.m., said National Weather Service meteorologist Jamie Enderlen.
The highest temperature for May 7 was set in 1954 at 87 degrees, according to the weather service.
Thursday's weather is also forecast to include some gusts of up to 30 mph that would be coming from the south, Enderlen said.
Thursday night temperatures are expected to be in the 60s as a low pressure system moves in, adding a chance of showers and thunderstorms to finish the day, Enderlan said.
Friday's temperatures are going to be a bit cooler, with highs hovering in the 80s. A chance of rain also is expected Friday afternoon and evening, Enderlen said.
But during the weekend, temperatures are forecast to drop, with Sunday seeing high temperatures in the 50s.
"It's spring," Enderlen said. "It gets hot and cool like this."
