Warm tributes paid by family and team-mates to Wishaw dad after tragic death

Glowing tributes have been paid to a much-loved Wishaw dad who died at the weekend.

Talented amateur footballer Jamie Weir passed away at the age of just 30 on Sunday.

Police confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding Jamie’s death.

The Wishaw man played as a striker for Airdrie and Coatbridge football club Villa Park AFC and was enjoying a night out with pals in Motherwell just hours before his death.

A statement on Villa Park’s Twitter page said: “We received horrible news that our striker Jamie Weir is no longer with us.

“Everybody’s thoughts from everyone associated with Villa Park are with Julie Anne and all the family. Rest easy mate.”

Jamie’s nephew Daryn Weir added: “Words can’t even explain for the loss of my uncle Jamie. Heartbroken man to say the least, you were one of a kind.”
