Warm Bodies and 50/50 director Jonathan Levine is in talks to take charge of the cameras on Amy Schumer’s next comedic venture, an untitled film about a mother and daughter who are kidnapped while holidaying in Brazil, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Levine would work from a screenplay rewritten by Schumer and her sister, Kim Caramele, based on an earlier draft by The Heat’s Katie Dippold. Schumer will play the daughter, a role which has been retooled with the comic in mind.
Schumer’s breakout film, Trainwreck, catapulted her to Hollywood stardom last month following earlier success for the television show Inside Amy Schumer. The Judd Apatow-directed comedy about a magazine writer with a penchant for drunken promiscuity drew on Schumer’s own experiences living an out-of-control lifestyle. It has been well-reviewed and zoomed past the $100m mark at the global box office earlier this month, a figure which represents a decent return for an R-rated comedy that cost just $35m to shoot.
Levine is also directing festive comedy The Night Before, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen and Anthony Mackie, which hits US cinemas on 25 November (UK 11 December). The film centres on three friends who get together each year on Christmas Eve for a night of drunken debauchery.
