Warehouse on unassuming Liverpool street to become private members' club

A warehouse on a street in the middle of Liverpool city centre could become a bar and private members club under plans submitted to Liverpool Council.

Details on the proposals are limited, but according to an application received by the council's planning department earlier this month the building, on Henry Street, could house a bar on its ground floor and a private member's club above.

According to the plans the warehouse is currently vacant.

The application, from Paul Martin, would see multiple floors of the building renovated.

A report attached to the application says: "The proposed development is to provide a ground floor bar area with appropriate facilities, the first and second floors will be altered to provide bar and associated facilities for a private members club.

"There will be no movement between the ground floor and first and second floor levels without membership."

The application comes as bars and restaurants in the city centre and throughout Liverpool look to recover from the coronavirus lockdown.

A series of council-backed measures will see roads closed and restaurants allowed to put tables on the street to aid with social distancing.

Businesses can also apply for grants and bounce back loans, but many are warning that the pandemic and the ensuing economic fallout could spell the end for their businesses.

Liverpool Council's planning department will likely decide on the Henry Street application in the coming months.
