Wards Corner legal action

Haringey Council's plans to demolish and redevelop Wards Corner in Tottenham, home of the remarkable Seven Sisters Market, could be gravely disrupted by legal action brought by local campaigners opposed to the regeneration scheme. The solicitor representing the Wards Corner Community Coalition have argued that the Council failed to follow the proper procedures before giving its consent to Grainger plc to knock the Corner down and rebuild. It argues that Haringey's decision would not hold up in the face of a judicial review. A lawyerly WCC press release says:

At this stage Haringey Council has the opportunity to revoke the planning permission and consent to demolish the Wards Corner site and agree to re-determine the application in a lawful manner, thus minimizing costs. But if Haringey Council stands by its decision then an application for permission to seek judicial review will be filed in the High Court. Haringey Council has until 12th February 2009 to respond.
