Ward Park Bangor pollution investigation after white foam appears

An investigation is ongoing after white foam appeared in a river in a Co Down park .

The Northern Ireland Environment Agency were called to Ward Park in Bangor on Monday, July 29, by a member of the public.

They reported seeing white foam in the popular park's river. It is the second time a pollution incident in Ward Park has been highlighted this month.

A spokesman for the Northern Ireland Environment Agency said: "NIEA received a report yesterday (29th July) at 18:21 from a member of the public, via the Water Pollution Hotline, of white foam in Ward Park, Bangor. A Water Quality Inspector attended the incident and the investigation is ongoing.

"NIEA has investigated one other recent pollution incident in Ward Park when a member of the public reported a small amount of oil pollution on the 10th July.

"Investigating officers have not observed any adverse impact on wildlife. 

"If anyone wishes to report pollution incidents they can do so by calling the Water Pollution Hotline on 0800 80 70 60 ."
