Ward at Perth hospital closes due to coronavirus

A ward in Perth's Murray Royal Hospital has closed to new admissions due to COVID-19.

The news comes as it was announced Tay Ward at Perth Royal Infirmary has reopened following its recent coronavirus-related closure.

The medicine for the elderly ward was temporarily closed but Perth and Kinross Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP), which controls the rehabilitation ward, said no patients were on the ward at the time it closed.

A spokesperson for the partnership said: “Tay Ward at Perth Royal Infirmary is open.

“The ward was temporarily closed due to COVID-19 (coronavirus).

“Fortunately, there were no patients in the ward at the time it closed.

“All appropriate infection prevention and control measures were put in place to ensure that the ward would be able to re-open.”

The spokesperson later added: “Tummel Ward in Murray Royal Hospital is closed to new admissions due to COVID-19 (coronavirus).

“The ward has been closed to new patients as a precautionary measure and all appropriate infection prevention and control measures have been put in place.”
