A 104-year-old war veteran was floored by a surprise knock on his door in Maghull.
Great-great grandfather Tom Beevers often told his kids of his time in the Desert Rats during World War Two.
His daughter Lynn Davidson, 75, said: "He had a chameleon which he would put under his beret and he used to take it into the tank with him when he drove it. It was his little mate."

Silent Night was his favourite carol as he would sing it during the war, according to Lynn. He even used to know the words in German.
So he was "overwhelmed" when he was greeted with a hamper of Christmas treats and a performance of his favourite carol by the LMA Choir when he opened his door one day.
Everton supporter Tom said: "It's a good feeling to have, to think that people think so much of you to come.
"I can’t put words to it."
Tuesday's surprise was arranged by Sharon and Nigel Mather, from Bowdon in Greater Manchester, who won £12.4 million in the Euromillions in 2010.
The couple's visit to Tom's home was part of their work supporting the Everton in the Community charity, which has a Veterans’ Hub for current and former service personnel.
Nigel, 56, said: "He was obviously overwhelmed and really pleased and he said thank you to everyone."

Sharon, 50, added: "I feel quite honoured that we have been asked to come and meet Tom today.
"I have never met anybody over 100 before and he is a veteran."
Tom is one of 14 veterans from Merseyside who have been given hampers from National Lottery winners this year.
He grew up in Bootle, Sefton and met his wife, May, at dance halls before the war, according to his daughter Lynn.
Tom married May in 1945 when he returned from service after joining the Army in 1939. May died 28 years ago.
His daughter Lynn said said: "He always has us laughing with his stories.
"I've heard them umpteen times and they're still as fresh as when he first told them."
Tom's granddaughter Alison Lally, 51, shed a tear as she joined him and Lynn on the doorstep as they listened to the choir.
Her granddad said he is looking forward to a "good nosh up and booze up" on Christmas Day.
