Reporter caught styling hair with his own SPIT in live news blunder

A US war correspondent was caught doing some last minute grooming live on camera - using his own spit.

MSNBC 's Matt Bradley was reporting from Syria when he was seen spitting in to his hand twice to try and slick back his hair.

The journalist was unaware the cameras were rolling after his colleague anchor Ali Velshi introduced him in the location 6,000 miles away from the New York headquarters.

Sound issues meant that an unsuspecting Matt was caught in the gross faux pas as the camera flashed to him without warning.

Despite the mishap the camera continued to roll on the foreign correspondent, capturing several uncomfortable seconds of his cringeworthy beauty regime.

The clip begins back in the studio as news anchor Velshi directs to Matt: "Matt, what’s the situation for you?"

Expecting to deliver a report live from Syria on the defeat of ISIS caliphate and ongoing hostilities in the region, Matt wanted to look his best.

But clearly not hearing the question through his earpiece, Matt began to run his hands through his hair to tidy up his blonde locks, but not speaking.

Eventually after several seconds of silence Velshi said: "We do not have Matt, we will come back to him as we get him."

The clip was shared by actress and writer Valerie Brieman on Twitter with the caption: "THIS JUST HAPPENED LIVE!!!"

It quickly garnered attention with thousands of likes and retweets, as people mocked the embarrassing moment with vomiting memes.

"Just threw up in my mouth a little bit," wrote one person on Twitter.

"Gross," added another, while one joked, "Well at least he can say he uses only 'natural' hair products."

But fellow news anchor Carl Quintanilla was quick to defend Matt writing: "Folks reporting live from Syria can get ready for air any. Way. They. Want."
