A WOMAN who used a sawn-off shotgun to shoot up a car at Neath in 2019 and then failed to appear in court at least three times, triggering multiple arrest warrants, has been jailed for at least six months.
Tyra Allen, 22, had been given every opportunity to avoid a jail term since being charged with firing a gun into her ex-partner's rival's car in the driveway of a home at Cessnock Road at Neath on August 25, 2019.
Despite failing to appear in court on multiple occasions, Allen managed to be granted conditional bail the first two times she was arrested after going on the run.
The last time Allen was in Newcastle Local Court she was told to undergo an assessment to see if she was suitable for a residential rehabilitation program - an approach that could have helped her avoid a jail term - and return to court to be sentenced on June 30.
But she failed to undertake the assessment or appear in court and Magistrate Robert Stone issued another warrant for her arrest.
After about a month avoiding the police she was arrested and appeared in Cessnock Local Court where she was finally refused bail.
The courts had had enough and she had missed her chance at receiving a non-custodial sentence.
Allen appeared in Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday after pleading guilty to firing a firearm into a building, four counts of failing to appear in court and having a knife in a public place.
Magistrate Stone jailed Allen for a maximum of nine months, with a non-parole period of six months.
She will be eligible for parole in January 2022.
Allen had allegedly been provided the weapon by her ex-partner, Hayden Waters, who had allegedly instructed her to "shoot up" the man's house over an ongoing feud between the pair.
