Police tracked down a wanted man after he was seen smoking a cigarette on a Metrolink platform.
The man, who was wanted on recall to prison, drew attention to himself by lighting up while waiting for a tram.
Smoking on platforms or trams is banned across the Metrolink network.
The man was spotted by plain clothed officers on the transport unit, who then observed him getting on the tram without a ticket and arrested him.

Posting about the arrest on social media, police in Trafford wrote: "#Transportunit #Opsycamore have arrested a Male who was recalled to prison yesterday.
"He came to attention of plain clothes officers after smoking on the platform and then proceeding to travel without a valid ticket.
