Wanted man Gary Maclean who is 'avoiding police' last seen travelling on the Metro

A wanted man is "avoiding police" after breaching the terms of his release from prison.

Gary David Maclean, 54, has been wanted by police since the end of May after it was reported that he had breached the terms of his licence.

He had been released from prison in February after being jailed for shoplifting at the end of last year.

He is now wanted on recall to prison with officers trying to find him.

However, officers believe he is actively trying to avoid police.

Now they are appealing for help from the public to locate him and say he was most recently seen on Thursday using the Metro to travel from Monument towards the coast.

Maclean, of Oak Street, Throckley , is described as white, of slim build, about 6ft and with short greying hair.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts, or anyone who has seen him in recent days, is asked to call police on 101 quoting reference SRN 172353.

You can also call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, email  central.intelligence@northumbria.pnn.police.uk or report it online at the Northumbria Police website.
