Wanted man flees police through tiny ‘DIY escape route’

A "very skinny" wanted man has escaped West Yorkshire Police by slipping through a home-made “bolthole”.

The man used the “DIY escape route” – a square-shaped hole cut out of the floorboards – to flee his home as police waited outside the front door.

Officers discovered the passage, which led to a neighbour's house, after using hydraulic cutting equipment to get inside.

They struggled to break down the front door because the man had reinforced it with a metal bar - allowing himself more time to escape.

"Bolt hole, that's one way to do it," tweeted Leeds West police.

"Wanted male who refused to answer the door then dropped into his DIY escape route. 1-0 to him, but we will arrange a rematch soon.

"Can't win every time. The hunt continues," they added.
