Wanted man David Gray brutally trolled on Facebook after Durham Constabulary releases his mugshot

Wanted man David Gray has been roasted on Facebook by fans of his famous namesake.

Durham Constabulary issued the mugshot of the 37-year-old, who is wanted in connection with a burglary.

However, his name soon caught the attention of music fans - who used his namesake's songs and lyrics to brutally troll him.

The more famous David Gray shot to fame with his million-selling album White Ladder.

The record included hits such as 'Babylon', 'This Year's Love' and 'Please Forgive Me'.

And the force's Facebook followers did their worst as they speculated about the wanted Gray's whereabouts.

"Last I heard he 'sailed away' with his honey," joked one commenter.

Another wrote: "He only got away with it cause 'all the lights are changing', while one questioned: "Did he have a White Ladder?"

Others were more helpful, even offering up ideas as to where the force may find the Chester-le-Street man.

"You will catch him at home on Friday night - he is going nowhere," posted one.

Another added: "It was a while ago but I'm sure I heard someone say they'd seen David Gray in Consett. "

However, Gray - who also goes under the name David Bolam - is still at large, according to a force spokesperson.

Anyone who has seen him, or knows of his whereabouts, should call Durham Constabulary on 101 and quote crime reference number CRI00226967.

Alternatively, information can be passed on anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
