Wanted man arrested, taken to hospital and charged after Kurri chase

HUNTER police have arrested a man wanted on several outstanding warrants.

Officers from the Hunter Valley Police District's Target Action Group attended a property on Edward Street in Kurri Kurri about 4pm on Saturday after receiving information about a man wanted on outstanding warrants.

On arrival, police spoke to an occupant before they spotted a man running from the house's backyard.

Police pursued and arrest a 25-year-old man.

"During the arrest, it's alleged the man assaulted a male senior constable who sustained a knee injury," police said in a statement.

The 25-year-old was taken to Maitland Hospital under police guard for treatment of what police described as minor injuries.

He was released from medical care and taken to Cessnock police station.

The man was subsequently charged with two counts of resist officer in execution of duty, two counts of assault police officer in execution of duty, two counts of enter enclosed lands and one count of malicious damage.

He was also charged over the outstanding warrants, which related to traffic, weapons, firearms and assault offences.

The Kurri Kurri man was due to face court in Newcastle on Sunday.
