(Picture: AFP via Getty Images)A North Carolina man has been charged in connection with the Capitol riot after he was reported to the FBI by members of his own family.
The arrest came after the authorities released pictures of suspects involved the U.S. Capitol invasion as it tried to find hundreds who remained at large.
Grayson Sherrill’s pictures were amongst the dozens published last month.
The ‘wanted posters’ showed him wearing a red “Keep America Great” hooded top, jeans and dark-colored combat-style boots.
He was also carrying a long, cylindrical-shaped object, around two to three feet long in his left hand.
According to a criminal complaint, members of his family identified him from images and news articles of the attack and turned him in.
One relative told authorities that Sherrill’s father texted another family member a picture of Sherrill inside the Capitol.
They also gave the FBI a picture of him standing next to a statue of Dwight D. Eisenhower, which is located inside of the Rotunda of the Capitol building - a similar picture of him next to the monument can be found on the Getty Images website.
Another family member contacted law enforcement and said his father had also sent a screenshot of a news channel’s report of the attack which showed Sherrill inside the Capitol.
Sherrill appeared in federal court in Charlotte on Monday and has been charged with knowingly entering and remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority, knowingly engaging in disorderly or disruptive conduct in a restricted area and violent and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.
