Wanted man arrested in Rotorua after armed offenders squad callout

A man who sparked a major Armed Offenders callout north of Taupo yesterday has been arrested.

Police alleged the man did a drive-off in a stolen car from a petrol station in Tokoroa about 9am yesterday. They named the wanted man as Te Morehu Enoka and warned the public not to approach him.

As the hunt for the man progressed, police closed roads and warned locals in the Whakamaru and Atiamuri areas to stay inside and lock their doors.

The Armed Offenders Squad, dog units and Eagle helicopter were all involved in the search.

Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Turner said a 27-year-old Te Puke man was arrested late last night in Rotorua.

A man will appear in Rotorua District Court today charged with 23 offences, including the aggravated robbery of the Paengaroa Liquor Store on May 14, using a firearm against a police officer, arson, burglary, theft and driving charges.

Police are still seeking four people involved in the Paengaroa aggravated robbery and urge people with information to contact Tauranga police on (07) 577 4300.
